Hunting and Diet

Anacondas are carnivores, meat-eaters. All four this species are aquatic snakes that prey on other aquatic animals, including fish, river fowl, pigs, deer, caiman (a type of crocodilian), birds, fish, rodents like the capybara and agouti and other animals. Some of anacondas preying on livestock animals such as goats and ponies that venture too close to the water.

They mostly hunt at night, they are nocturnal. Anacondas kill by constricting, squeezing the prey until it can no longer breathe. Sometimes they make drown his prey in the water.

Like all snakes, they swallow the prey whole, start from head. Anaconda’s top and bottom jaws are attached to each other with stretchy ligaments, which let the snake swallow animals bigger than itself. Snakes do not chew their food, they digest it with very strong acids II in the snake’s stomach.

After eating a large animal, the anaconda no needs food for a long time and rests for weeks. The young anacondas who called Neonates can care for themselves soon after birth, including hunting but are not defenseless against large predators. They eat small rodents, rats, mice, baby birds, frogs and small fish.

While, encounters between people with anacondas may be dangerous, they do not hunt humans, but they can eat an human. Nevertheless, threat from anacondas is a familiar trope in comics, movies and adventure stories  which usually set in the Amazon’s wild adventure.

Anacondas have also figured prominently in South American folklore, where they are sometimes depicted in mythical as creatures which can shapeshifting who called Encantados. Local communities and some European explorers have given accounts about anacondas as legendary giant snakes who having of much greater proportion than any actual specimen who has been confirmed.
